The combined expertise of our carefully selected management team covers the full spectrum of forest establishment, tending, harvesting, log manufacturing, marketing of logs and wood chips, as well as financial reporting and compliance services. Operational members of our Senior Executive team and many of our employees have spent their working life in forestry and are recognised as experts in their field. TIMBERLANDS Limited (NZ) employs approx 80 staff and manages approximately 750 contractors.

DAVID BALFOUR, Managing Director
David joined TIMBERLANDS with over 30 years experience in the forest industry. Formally David was Chief Executive of BSW Timber, a Scottish company, which owned five sawmills and stumpage operations. His experience includes forest management, management of harvesting and marketing operations, site manager for a large sawmill and lumber sales. David graduated from Edinburgh University with a BSc (Hons) in Ecological Science. He is a fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Foresters (UK) and is an associate member of the NZ Institute of Forestry.
WAYNE DERRICK, Managing Director
Wayne was formerly Regional Finance Director - Asia Pacific with AEI, a global logistics player. Wayne was involved in significant merger and acquisition initiatives within AEI and also a wide range of strategic and operational projects. In 2000 Wayne co-founded NextWindow, a company commercialising innovative touch screen technology across the Asia Pacific region and in the United Kingdom. More recently, Wayne was Chief Operations Officer for Daybreak Pacific, a New Zealand feature film production company specialising in structured film finance solutions. Wayne is a C.A. College member within ICANZ.
IAN HINTON, Director, Technical Manager
Ian has 20 years of industry experience with a career focus in forest mensuration, resource modelling and land management. Ian has a BForSc (Hons) from the University of Canterbury, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management from University of Waikato and is a member of the NZ Institute of Forestry.
DEAN WITEHIRA, Director, Tree Crop Operations Manager
With 21 years' experience in the forest industry, Dean has held a variety of roles covering tree improvement, health & safety, training, establishment and tending operations and forest management. Dean graduated from the University of Canterbury with a BForSc (Hons), he holds a New Zealand Certificate in Forestry (NZCF) and is a member of the NZ Institute of Forestry (NZIF). His tribal affiliations are with Nga Puhi.

COLIN MAUNDER, Forest Risk Manager
With 20 years' experience in the industry, Colin formerly worked for PF Olsen Limited in various roles including Environmental Manager and Rotorua Branch Manager. He has specialised in environmental management of plantations and has obtained Forest Stewardship Council Certification for TIMBERLANDS and previously for PF Olsen. Colin graduated from University of Canterbury with a BForSc and an MSc in Environmental Sciences. He is a member of the NZ Institute of Forestry and the Environmental Institute of Australia and New Zealand.
BELINDA BIRD, Human Resources Advisor
Belinda has worked in a range of primary industries during her career, including dairy, kiwifruit and water industries, as well as having held positions in both OSH and ACC where she undertook consultancy work in injury prevention and health and safety mangement. This broad experience is incorporated into her current role with Timberlands. Belinda holds a Graduate Diploma in Health & Safety from Massey University.
BRENT GUILD, Director, Managing Director - Timberlands Pacific PTY Ltd
With 22 years' experience in the forest industry, Brent was most recently a log procurement manager, managing wood flow into four Central North Island processing facilities. Prior to this he held a range of core forest management roles covering establishment, silviculture, wood flow, strategic planning and sales and marketing. Brent graduated from the University of Canterbury with a BForSc and is a member of the NZ Institute of Forestry.
